The Kitchen Diaries: Chloe’s kitchen makeover
Designer: Chloe Charteris
Marabese Showroom: Milton Keynes
Crown kitchen refit: Fit for a queen!
Here at Marabese Ceramics, we're proud to support the talented people who work for us. Chloe is one of our amazing kitchen designers, based at our showroom in Milton Keynes. A couple of years ago she refurbished her old kitchen and showed us how it was done. So when Chloe moved house, she put herself back in the driver's seat and got to work remodelling her new kitchen!
When Chloe moved into her new home, it needed a complete refurbishment! It was built in the 1990s and had the original kitchen with a separate dining room. She wanted to combine the two rooms so could have a larger entertaining area and make better use of space by having more storage.
The wall between the two rooms was knocked down and this opened the space dramatically, creating a sociable area where the children could be close by while Chloe is preparing meals. The Karndean flooring runs through the hallway, kitchen diner and into the utility room, making it feel like one flowing space.
The kitchen was remodelled in the shaker style Gala range by Crown, chosen in contrasting grey tones with round pewter doorknobs. This look is classic and modern at the same time - it's all about mixing the old-school style with a fresh new look.
Chloe created a peninsula in her kitchen to make it easy to move around and keep things organised. The NEFF induction hob and Slide&Hide oven underneath make it easy to cook without taking up too much space, preserving an uncluttered area to prepare food.
The kitchen has been fitted with worktops made by Algarve Granite, in their own material: 20mm Blanco Starlight. The worktop includes 100mm upstands and drainer grooves.
The lighting in this kitchen is not just for illuminating the space. It also adds a little extra personality to the room, making certain areas stand out. The hidden lights under the worktop create a cosy atmosphere when you turn off all the other lights at night, and they help highlight the doors so you can always find them! The industrial-style pendant lights above the peninsula give the space a clean look, visually sectioning the cooking area apart from the seating zone.
Chloe’s kitchen fitter, Alan Hobday, did a great job in the corner of the kitchen, building a bar area using scaffolding board shelves and radiant strip lighting. It's an impressive 'drinks station' with a wine cooler and all the snacks at hand in the integrated fridge freezer.
The result is a cosy space that feels like it belongs in an upscale restaurant - but it's just as great for cooking family dinners! It's a fantastic example of how a little time and effort can create great results. Would you like Chloe to cook up a kitchen for you? She can do it, easy as pie!
